How frequently should filters be replaced?
Cartridge lifespan explained: daily water consumption per person, litres per cartridge, and why filters should be replaced annually regardless of volume.
The per-person daily baseline
Health authorities recommend total fluid intake of roughly 3 litres per day for men and a little over 2 litres for women. Not all of that comes from drinking — food provides about 20% of the water you need each day, so the amount actually consumed as beverages is lower than the total intake target.
For a realistic consumption figure — water you actually pour and drink, including tea, coffee, cordials and cooking-related drinking water — the practical average lands at around 2 litres per person per day.
What this means for a Skoon Water system
A Pentair 4C² cartridge can deliver 14,950 litres. For an average family of four consuming roughly 2,920 litres of drinking and beverage water a year, that works out to 14,950 L ÷ 2,920 L/year ≈ 5.1 years of drinking water per cartridge on pure consumption alone.
Why you should still replace annually
In practice, the cartridge should be replaced annually — or at 11,000 to 13,000 litres — regardless of the theoretical capacity. Filter media degrades over time and the manufacturer's hygiene rating is time-based, not just volume-based. Most households will hit the annual mark long before the cartridge volume limit.
Skoon Water service plans track your replacement schedule so your system keeps performing to specification.
